Union Bank Seeks Collaborations and Partnerships for Sustainable Impact
March 15, 2023 Abisola Oluyede

As part of our commitment to supporting the growth of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Nigeria, Union Bank of Nigeria Plc recently met with the Minister of State for Industry, Trade, and Investment, Amb. Maryam Yalwaji Katagum. The meeting was aimed at discussing opportunities for collaboration and ways to support the growth of the non-oil sector of Nigeria’s economy.

During the meeting, the Minister was pleased to learn about Union Bank’s existing partnership with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) and the Bank of Industry (BOI) to support women in MSMEs. This partnership has helped to provide access to finance, business development services, and capacity building to thousands of women entrepreneurs across Nigeria.

The team also discussed opportunities to collaborate with the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) in the area of skills acquisition for MSMEs, particularly in the areas of e-commerce and financial inclusion. By leveraging the ITF’s expertise in training and development, we hope to equip MSMEs with the skills and knowledge they need to compete in the digital age.

As Nigeria’s leading financial institution, Union Bank remains committed to supporting the growth of MSMEs in Nigeria. We believe that MSMEs play a critical role in driving economic growth and creating job opportunities, particularly for women who are often underrepresented in the business world.

Through our various initiatives, including the Union Bank Women’s Network and our partnership with SMEDAN and BOI, we have been able to provide financial and non-financial support to women-owned businesses across Nigeria. We are proud to be part of the solution and will continue to explore opportunities for collaborations that will drive growth and development.

At Union Bank, we remain committed to empowering women in business, and we believe that with the right support and resources, they can achieve great things. We urge other financial institutions and stakeholders to join us in this effort to support women in MSMEs and drive economic growth in Nigeria.
